  • Burning the house down …

Well since the house is allready down, we are actually burning the scrap timber from the demolition.
Here is a time lapse of the bonfire…

  • Timber, Timber and Timber!

All the timber from the Old Place has been cleared up and chucked into one huge pile!

One day there will be .. one enormous bonfire! We will burn up most of the wood but some of it is in good condition and will keep ready for future use.

All that remains is the chimney and a collection of bricks piles scattered around in the footprint of the once standing proud Old Place!

We will now clear up the rubble and old paths and old floor slabs.

  • House Demolition Party

Today we had a party! We invited all our nearby family to come and have fun demolishing the Old Place!

We had six extra people here, all making great efforts in helping us break apart the wooden shell of the Old Place!

We calculated that today’s multi man & woman workforce, probably saved us at least 20 days, if not 30 days of effort! We really thank all our family for their fabulous effort in helping us!

The only thing left standing is the chimney! We will tidying up the last remaining planks of wood and rubble and have a “nice” scene of the chimney standing all by itself!

  • Hazardous Asbestos Panels all in Skip

Today we have finally got all the cement panels with the asbestos, from the Old Place and all corners of the garden loaded into the skip we hired last Thursday.

We had calculated that we have about 1.5 cubic metres of of the stuff, which nearly filled the skip. Right up to the top. The skip is the biggest one they do! It is the effect of the layers and the difficulty in avoiding uneven placements of the thousands of pieces!

That is the last of the asbestos problem. At last!

  • All Cement Panels Stripped off and Piled Up!

The internal walls and ceiling cement panels are completely off in the Old Place! It is all piled into one location ready for the skip when it comes.

It looks like that it will fill a large 8 cubic yard skip completely!

  • We need a bonfire!

We are building up an impressive amount of wood to burn… Hopefully it will be a bit wet tommorrow and we can get combusting.

    Lots of bits of wood!

    Lots of bits of wood!

    Lots of bits of wood!

    Lots of bits of wood!

  • Those pesky wasps did work hard…

Last summer we had a plague of wasps around the back of the house. We tried a number of ways to kill them and eventually succeded.
Here is are some pictures of the nest after it fell out the wall when Shaun removed the cover.

  • Internal Coverings being Stripped!

The last couple of days have seen the internal walls, ceilings, doors and windows wooden battens and framework being stripped off!

Also the bathroom wall is now dismantled, and all the cement panels off both the walls and ceiling in that room as a whole, is now stripped off too! you can now see the underside of the roof and the outside heather edge boarding!

It is a very dirty job, but we are wearing a complete high grade one-piece protection suit, a FG2 graded masks, and hard hat with visor pulled down! Our boots have steel sole plates too! it feels like one is entering a crime scene for forensic examination! Smile!

  • House is naked!

Yes the house has now reverted to it’s childhood and has no clothes on…

    Look no battens
