  • Materials Storage Area prepared

We finished off the materials storage area today.  This where we will put all the bulk deliveries of timber and other building supplies.

A week ago we flattened the triangle between the storage shed, school field hedge and the loke (about 70m²). Today we laid geo-textile over it and placed 50-70mm of granulated asphalt covering and compacted.

We also filled in some of the ruts caused by the concrete trucks yesterday…

  • Received 450 square metres of geotextile

We have today recieved two rolls of geotextile! Each is 2.25m wide by 100m long! These are bargin purchases because they are “seconds”. We plan to use them as liners in the leach field and as a separator under the temporary hardstanding!

  • Shingles or Shakes ?

We have been looking at the sample panels for the last few days. There is agrement that the Shakes look just a little too rustic… So it will be shingles on the roof with a mixture of shingles and T&G boards on the walls.

  • Samples of Western Red Cedar for roof and walls.

We can’t decide exactly which style of Cedar to use to clad the walls. So we bought a bundle each of Shingles & Shakes and a few planks of Tounge and Groove boards. These were made up into sample panels about 1m square.

  • Cedar Shingles – importing direct.

I’m looking at ways to save money on the materials for the build (isn’t everybody). I have found a Canadian firm who ship shingles to England. For the over 400m2 of roof on this build we will save over £1000 including delivery.

Now I’m looking at the possibility of getting more materials from Canada/US.

  • Buying materials for Temp Building
