We had snow yesterday but now we have at least doubled the thickness out there!

Even if we finished creating the two rafters we have to do in the workshop, we wouldn’t be able to install them up into the roof framework until all the snow has melted away!

They say that the freezing snowy weather will continue for another four to five days at least!! Eek! Big Sigh!!

    ** Update ** Sunday 4th March **
All the Snow have been melted away by the sudden turn in the weather. It got warm and lots of rain came! We should be able to resume work on the new week with no problems! Yippee!

  • Two Days Lost to Back Injury

Work on doing the rafters was postponed while Shaun recovers from his muscles injuries. The recovery is going well. With the weekend here now, he should see him have enough time to gain his physical health back again and start doing some light duty work on Monday.

  • Interruptions

Work has been patchy over the last three days, with other commitments on Thursday, rain all day Friday and also rain in the afternoon of Saturday too!
    Erk!
We didn’t have any other jobs lined up as we didn’t have the “N” rafter (number 6) installed so we could measure the next set of rafters on either side of this central one.
    So lost days!!

  • Gorgeous Snow Stops Work!

This afternoon, having completed the production of the four rafters (for the “P” and “N” sections), we couldn’t go outside as it was snowinging quite hevily!!

Tomorrow, we have our Oak Timber arriving, during the day sometime, and with the cold snap occurring this week all over the country, it is unlikely that we will get any work done outside too.
    Phew!

  • Two More Days Lost

The last two days has fallen foul of the side-effects of the suffering these cold and flu viruses, with disrupted sleep patterns and secondly infections.
What a world we live on!
What will be around the next corner??
    Phew!

  • Tax Returns Deadline Looms!

Today, we just remembered that we got to do our tax returns so the day was spent doing that instead!! Oh blow! Another day lost!

  • Another Week Lost!

Another week is lost to another bout of cold or flu virus attack! It is the second lots for us both and this time, it is likely to have been the flu virus. It is definitely noticeable to how much more worse this winter has been with these bugs flying around than previous years.
But we are well on the mend now and on Monday, we will slowly get back into the routine of work again, it is going to be very odd after so much time lost!!

  • The Winter Cold Virus Hits the Workforce!

This is a report of several days of illness for our two man workforce, both being subjected to the damn annoying winter cold viruses, but not at the same time!!
The week beginning the 8th January (Monday) was lost with a few days of no action. Then the 2nd attack occurs in the middle of the following week (16th January Tuesday onwards) lying both workmen low separately and consecutivly – how annoying!!
We may see work resume on Monday 22nd January onward, if the weather is kind to us, but we haven’t lost all these last 14 days, we did manage to do some design analysis towards the procurement of items to build the Skylight, more info in the Glazing Framework Type, Shape and Size Final Adjustments report.

  • Christmas Break!

    It is Christmas!!

We have blitzed the whole workshop, to tidy it up and make it as clean as possible, ready for having our family around to celebrate this festive moment of the year!

The completed “P” rafters, all eleven (and one little chunk of timber!), are now outside in the middle of the house, all covered up in two layers of tarpaulin to keep them dry and in the new year, we will resume work and install them!!

Also during this holiday break, we will do other small jobs like repairing tyres on the flatbed trolley, unblock guttering and downpipes (on our temporary storage building) and anything else that has been put off all year! Eeek!

    So Merry Christmas!

  • Back Muscles Twinge!

During the manufacturing of rafters on Thursday, 3 days ago, Shaun suffered a twinge in his lower back muscles and had to slow down. Fortunately, we had only one session left to do to complete and by careful positioning and movement, he was able to complete the task of squeezing the rafters while being nailed together by Stephen.
But for the rest of the afternoon and for the next 3 days, it was felt that rest was called for and not risk further damage.
So we had a change of plans and switched over to quantifying the total amount of Oak timber we would need for the external features of our house (and Garage too). See separate External Oak Timber Survey report.
Shaun reports that after 2 days of rest, his back muscles are recovering well and hopefully another 24 hours rest (Sunday) will see him doing limited work on Monday. We have to cut the bevel ends on our rafters we have made as the next job before putting them up into the roof and that could be possible for Shaun.
