  • Fresh Air Duct complete

we finished off the fresh air ducting today while we waited for the glue to set on our Oak Window frames. It now connects to the new building through the little connecting doorway.

  • Air Duct

The air duct along the back wall is now fitted. Plus also have put up some plasterboards on the corridor wall. Have removed the lights out of the Sun Corridor so we can put up another air duct to capture the waste hot air for recycling.

  • Plasterboards going Up!

Today we started putting up the plaster boards in the temporary living quarters. We went straight along the back wall in one go with 8 sheets and then 3 sheets across the end.

    It was fairly simple.

Just very hot indeed! The Sun Corridor heated the place up to well over 35 degrees Celsius !

Build the air duct on the back wall and then the partition walls next.

  • Final clean up of old Storage Shed

we sorted out the electrics to allow us to nail up the plaster boards. Currently the electric cable comes in from under the floor into the old storage shed and soon this will be replaced but not right now! We levelled out the floor with 11mm sheet of OSB down the sides and it is now ready for the 50mm thick Polystyrene foam boards.

We had a little fire in the incinerator to get rid of odds and ends which were accumulating in a corner of the storage shed!

Now we can start putting up the plaster boards and building the air conduits and finally the partition walls!

  • New Floor is Laid

The Sun Corridor now has a new floor!

In order to make as much of the space useable as possible for each of our rooms, we brought up the level of the floor. The only compromise we decided on is a gentle slope down towards the front door to minimise the step up when anyone comes in via the front door.

It was a fairly simple construction of 4 lines of CLS timber (38mm x 63mm) supported by little legs every metre.

Then 8 sheets of 18mm OSB boards laid on top. The gap inside was filled up with recycled glass wool bits and pieces to provide a little insulation.

  • Guttering is Up!

Yesterday we put up the guttering on the front of the wooden temporary shed and our new front door. It was something we were meaning to do for a while now. The immediate area just below the roof overhang was getting very soggy and very muddy! We needed to make sure this area and the driveway surface was bedded on solid ground before laying the asphalt chippings, so we needed to collect the rain water and divert it to a soak away module.

So yesterday we went to B&Q to get the guttering, brackets, downpipe and bits and pieces. Got it up so it slopes down towards the playing field end of the shed. We then dug a one metre square by over half a metre deep to take two AquaCell modules side by side. We wrapped them up in geotextile fabric. The downpipe was connected into the top of them and chucked the dirt back in on top!!

This morning we finished spreading the remaining soil around and compacted it all nice and smooth!

Now we wait for the rain to come !

  • Roof Repair!

We decided to repair our temporary storage come accommodation’s roof. The wooden building is over 8 years old so the original roofing felt is cracking up! We had the job on our list of things to do and since we were waiting for our building control to approve our plan B in installing our Earth Tubes so we did the repair job instead!

We got the cheapest felt money can buy and a couple of tin of black sticky glue and got up on the roof! No Nails this time and new felt straight on top of old! It only has to last a couple of more years!
